What's Upcoming At Esters

Sunday Tasting – Natural Wines (Summer Edition)

3-6 p.m.

All of us here at Esters love drinking natural wines and supporting independent winemakers with sustainable practices. So we’re doing another natural wine tasting, but this time, we’re focusing on gluggable options for the summer that are light, fresh and fun!

The line-up includes:

  • Cantina Marilina ‘Fedelie’ Bianco Frizzante Ancestrale, Sicily NV
  • Les Tetes ‘Tete Blanche’ Loire Valley 2016
  • Davide Spillare, Garganega ‘VV’, Veneto 2016
  • Martha Stoumen ‘Post Flirtation Red’ Zinfandel/Carignan, Napa 2017
  • Delaterra Viticultures (Laura Lorenzo) ‘Azos de Vila’ VdT Val do Bibei (Ribera Sacra) 2016

Guest Chef Burger Night – Kevin Meehan

6 p.m. until we sell out!

Our monthly Guest Chef Burger Series continues, with Kevin Meehan visiting #thelittlekitchenthatcould. At Kali, his neighborhood restaurant tucked between Hollywood and Larchmont Village, Kevin is known for his unpretentious take on contemporary California fine dining, but he also makes a killer lunchtime burger. He’ll be cooking up a Dry-Aged Flannery Beef Burger with black garlic ketchup, caramelized onions and sharp cheddar.

A little bit about Kevin and his restaurant. Kali represents the evolution of not just Kali Dining, his roving private dinner pop-up, but the rigorous years he spent refining his craft. He got his start in LA working under Chef Ludo Lefebvre at the celebrated L’Orangerie, followed by positions at Bastide, Citrine, and Joachim Spichal’s seminal Patina and Café Pinot. In 2012, Kevin launched his passion project with Kali Dining, an underground operation that quickly garnered critical attention for his assertive, yet nuanced tasting menus that he prepared, dinner party-style, for Los Angeles top tastemakers, luminaries, and food enthusiasts.

Sunday Tasting – Ted Glennon with Vocal Vineyards

3-6 p.m.

We’re excited to welcome our friend Ted Glennon, Co-Owner of Vöcal Vineyards, up in Salinas. We’ll be tasting through his beautiful Pinot Noir, Grüner Veltliner and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Guest Chef Burger Night – Roxana Jullapat & Dan Mattern

6 p.m. until we sell out!

For August’s Guest Chef Burger Night, we’re welcoming our friends and first cooking duo – Baker Roxana Jullapat and Chef Dan Mattern behind East Hollywood’s seasonal café and bakery, Friends & Family. They’re teaming up to make a wholesome, but decadent-tasting Organic Turkey Burger with avocado and jalapeño relish on Roxana’s housemade whole wheat buns.

We’ve been longtime fans of this couple, who first met at the Southern California School of Culinary Arts. Roxana and Dan built their respective careers, working in renowned kitchens like AOC, Lucques and Campanile – she focused on breads and pastry, while he trained under chefs Mark Peel, Nancy Silverton and Suzanne Goin. They opened their first project together in 2011 called Cooks County before opening Friends & Family in May 2017. Additionally, Roxana is a fierce champion in the women’s bread and grain movement, and is also the founder and organizer of Bakers Will Bake, a yearly bake sale and fundraiser benefiting garden-based education projects around Los Angeles.

Guest Chef Burger Night – Ari Taymor

6 p.m. until we sell out!

Wrapping up the Summer iteration of our Guest Chef Burger Series is award-winning chef Ari Taymor behind the newly opened Little Prince along Santa Monica’s Main Street. He’ll be doing his brunchtime Patty Melt on Clark Street sourdough, with an aged beef and bacon patty, brown butter béarnaise, aged cheddar, bread and butter pickles and arugula.

A little bit about Ari. His food is influenced by his commitment to supporting the farmers and ranchers of Southern California. Ari first made a splash on the LA dining scene when he opened alma in 2012, which garnered critical acclaim around the world. In 2013, it was named America’s Best New Restaurant by Bon Appétit, while Ari was named a 2014 Food & Wine Best New Chef and received a James Beard nomination as Rising Star Chef in 2014 and 2015. Alma shifted from it’s downtown location to a two-year residency at The Standard in West Hollywood from 2015-2017, before Ari opened Little Prince in May 2018.
