TASTINGS AT ESTERS
What's Upcoming At Esters
Guest Somm Night – Evelyn Goreshnik & Kaitlyn Harrah
As part of our ongoing Guest Somm Series, we’re inviting our friends Evelyn Goreshnik from the forthcoming APL Restaurant and Kaitlyn Harrah from Scopa Italian Roots, Maestro and Gregory Condes Wines to pour some of their favorite Loire Valley wines from our shop for the night. We’re big fans of Evelyn and Kaitlyn because not only do they both LOVE Chenin (Kathryn Coker’s fave), but they have a warmth and sincere approachability when walking guests through their wine lists.
Come chat with these two friends as they share the stories behind their French wine picks, offered as $20 flights or by the glass.
Modern School of Flowers Workshop – Ode on a Spring Urn
As part of our monthly Modern School of Flowers series with local florist Krystal Chang, the April workshop will be themed around tall urn arrangements to show off the best blooms the season has to offer.
Krystal will provide a variety of materials, with a focus on locally-sourced blossoming branches, tulips, sweet peas, ranunculus, greenery and fruit, like quince, cherry and magnolia branches, kumquats and dates and more. Participants will receive a hands-on lesson in how to build a loose, garden-inspired urn arrangement, as well as learn about structure and form, the subtleties of color and honoring the gesture of each flower and leaf.
Flowers, vases, tools and bubbles to drink will be provided, and each participant will take home their own floral arrangement. Limited seats available, so sign-up at www.krystalchang.com. For anyone who attends ALL workshops at Esters, Krystal Chang will reward attendees with a special flower delivery arrangement or holiday wreath at the end of the year.
The Modern School of Flowers is inspired by Constance Spry. Spry began her floral design career in 1920s London, shocking the public with loose, wild arrangements in untraditional vessels that incorporated unexpected materials such as twigs, vegetable leaves and wild grasses that anyone could find in the woods and their gardens. She opened the Modern School of Flower Workshop in 1935, with the idea that flowers were a source of beauty and healing that should be available to all. “I do feel strongly,” she once wrote, “that flowers should be a means of self-expression for everyone.”
